Puerto Rico’s Xander Zayas and John Bauza Earn Impressive KOs on Loma-Commey

New York City (December 11, 2021 ) — Young undefeated Puerto Rican Super Welterweight Xander Zayas made the most of his Madison Square Garden debut. Zayas closed out his 6-fight 2021 campaign in sensational fashion, stopping the previously unbeaten Alessio Mastronunzio inside the first round.

The promising Puerto Rican sent Mastronunzio to the canvas before 25 seconds elapsed in Round 1 – the result of a crushing right hook. Most of Zayas’ offense was working to perfection. The versatile young Puerto Rican landed repeatedly with uppercuts, hooks from both hands, and various combinations.

After seeing an extended period of poorly defended shots rock the 26-year old Italian, the bout’s referee stepped in at 2:52 to protect Mastronunzio from unnecessary punishment. Zayas improved to 12-0 with his ninth knockout.

In another preliminary bout for Top Rank on ESPN’s Vasiliy Lomachencko versus Richard Commey main event, fellow undefeated Puerto Rican Super Lightweight John Bauza followed up his impressive June appearance by beating down 19-0 Michael Williams Jr. of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Williams suffered his first loss after the one-sided bout was stopped at 2:19 after a brutal left hand from Bauza landed flush. Williams went down once in all four rounds, and three times in the final stanza. The Puerto Rican southpaw improved to 16-0 with his seventh stoppage.
